Truths about Homeschooling

One truth about homeschooling is that there is not one
type of homeschooler and the older they get the more you see
how different it really can be.

People homeschool for different reasons.
Some feel led by God and some don't even believe in God.
Some school at home like an average "school day" with desks, white boards,
and more....
while others un-school and learn what they want-when they want.
Some are active in sports and go to prom...
Some work on the family farm and some sit inside their Apartment Loft on the
computer doing distant learning.

Many think and believe homeschoolers don't go out partying with drugs and alcohol
but I've found this to be wrong.

Some kids.... public, private and even homeschoolers
party dangerously.

Sex, drugs, and alcohol are not reserved for those who are sent to school.

If you're a Homeschool parent you need to realize this.
You need to still be active in your child's lives.
What are they posting on FaceBook?
What pictures are they posting on instagram?
Who are they texting?
What is going on in their "social" lives?
What are they hearing from the kids at church?
Don't just eliminate it from their lives...unless you want them
to rebel..just be actively engaged.

Teach them to be young adults.

You only have 18ish years to raise an adult.
This might seem like a long time, especially for those with little ones,
BUT
it isn't!

Another truth is that there are some teenagers who's parents both work outside
the home and are
left home alone to "school" but tend to do the complete opposite.

I am not saying that homeschooling is not a good choice.
I'm not saying that your responsible teenager couldn't
stay home alone and complete school.

I love homeschooling!

But people need to realize that homeschooling is not a magic pill
for their teenager and that you as a parent need to be present and
hands-on while rearing young adults.
