Crunch, crunch , crunch goes the barren land begging for some drops of water.
That is what the land around me sounded like last year...we needed rain. We had been with out rain for days, months....seemingly years! But the rains finally came this fall. Yes, we've had rain...allot of rain! The land that was once dry and cracked now is moist and green. These past few weeks we've had the added beauty of brilliant blues, radiant yellows, glorious whites, and passionate pinks. Wildflowers! They are in bloom and they are yet another reason why living out in the country is such a beautiful place to live. I drive to the city for allot of things. I drive in to the gym, to church, to our co-op...and many people don't understand why I choose to live 30 to 40 minutes away from everything. I've tried to tell them that they are in traffic for that long and I'm driving through the country side for atleast 20 minutes of my drive before getting in the mess. My time on the road is lengthened a little but not as much as most people seem to think. But lately the wildflowers have been in bloom and I've been surrounded by a sea of flowers on my drives into the city. It is stunning! I look out and see a pasture of blues and yellows with an old wire fence and a huge long horn bull grazing along and think....WOW...Thank you Lord for allowing me to see a glimpse of your beauty. I'm blessed to be able to live where I am. At night I can look up and see a night sky like no other. My night sky in the country is breath taking! When I take my trash out in the evenings I look up and see His beauty and yet again feel blessed.
Which brings me to my point that I was making to my oldest and point that I try to get my children understand. Life is not always going to be one big wonderful event after another. Finding God everywhere is joy. Finding the good in the everyday and the everything is where you'll find your happy place:) This conversation was brought on because my DD wanted to take a portion of her English test that day and then the Vocabulary portion the next day. I told her no that she can study and take it all together the next day. She proceeded to argue the fact that the college test she is about to take allows that which lead me to say the old time favorite...I said no and that's what I mean...period. Well, I saw the "teen" behavior wanting to come out so I had to combat it with some wisdom. (I love that I can do that as a home school mom) I told her that English is her favorite subject..right?and I reminded her that she had been asking all year long for me to teach her English alone w/out her sister...right? .... I asked her if she was taught today by her self and if she even thought about noticing it .... I told her...instead of focusing on the goodness... you today (and lately) just focused on the negative.
When we do things like that we start to steal the joy God has planned for us. When we steal that joy something else takes its place...we start to focus more on all the bad around us...the ugly...and then the good times...the fun things...are harder to see and when we do see them it is harder for them to stay. It's almost like a callus that we have to constantly shave or this world will harden us....the beauty that God puts before us, may it be as simple as one lonely wildflower blowing in the wind or a whole sea of them coloring an old pasture full of all the colors of the rainbow is there...stop looking for the negative and look for anything good! Let me know what you find:) Let someone know!
